Halloween is coming up and I've been getting a lot of emails recently with people asking how to make something, or what type of materials I use, so I thought this would be a great way of communicating and a place to share knowledge.

so where do you get that kind of cardboard at? Im currentlly making a soundwave out ouf polystyrene but could use some cardboard also.
My local hobby shops do not have it.

The company I work for gets a lot of computers in, so when servers and such come in I will take the cardboard. Sometimes I have friends and relatives keep an eye out if they get some new furniture or electronics at home and work. Sometimes I can catch people in my building before they throw some away. Everybody around me knows I build these things, so they will look out for me, bring me strange scraps that I can use for future builds. I've been holding onto a spring for 5 years, and I just figured out the best place for it in the Soundwave I'm working on now.

You can even go to Target (on Thursdays after they stock the shelves) and take some empty boxes out of the recycling. Only the recycling - Trash dumpsters and cardboard don't mix - Scents tend to linger.

One thing I have learned is that if the cardboard has Pemanant Marker on it, it will sometimes soak through the paint.

Great looking costumes! At our local recycle yard you can get flat 4' X 8' sheets of cardboard.

i'm making my stuff outta mesh and scrap bits, all happily covered in flock, then painted over. just a different way of doing things. it might help you.
